How to restrict the author to contribute only in a specific category in WordPress

If you are running a multi-author blog, I am sure you people have divided your work based on categories. This is how most multi-author blog runs. On Techlomedia, I hired a person only to write about gadgets launch and another person only to write about mobile apps. This makes sense and prevents conflict from writing the same kind of articles. You can enhance this process by allowing the author to restrict only to a specific category. In this way, the author will not see any category selection section in the post editor. by default, the article will go in the allowed category. In this article, I will explain how to achieve this kind of arrangement in your WordPress blog.

Restrict author to contribute only in a specific category in WordPress

To restrict an author to a specific category or specific categoris, you need to use a plugin. First, install the Restricted Authors plugin and activate it in your blog. This plugin lets you restrict an author to select the defined category. You can also set a default category for authors. Now, go to Users -> All Users. Now click on the edit link in front of the user whom you want to restrict to a specific category.

Scroll down until you find the Restricted Categories section. Here, you can select the Restricted Categories for current authors. You can select one or more categories.

Now when the author will create a new post, he will only see categories you allowed using the Restricted Authors plugin. He/She can only select from the categories you allowed.

If you ever want to change categories or remove restrictions, come back to the user profile page again and make changes.
