Why WordPress is the Best Blogging Platform?

WordPress

According to the study, WordPress powers over 40% of websites, and the number is growing with time. WordPress was released as a blogging platform but has become a full CMS that can be used for any kind of website. WordPress is no doubt the best and most used blogging platform. But I have seen many new bloggers who use blogger and ask why should I use WordPress while blogger is giving similar features for free. Yes, It is good to start with Blogger but after a few months, you will surely wish to move to WordPress. Moving your blog to WordPress costs only a domain and Hosting. But this little investment can also help you in earning a good income from your blog. In this post, I am trying to give an answer to those bloggers who think that WordPress blogging is the same as blogger.com blogging. I will try to answer one of the most asked questions by new bloggers. That question is “Why WordPress is the Best Blogging Platform?”.

I also started my blogging with Bloggers Blogspot blogs. I still have 1 of my blogs running on blogger. But there are many essential SEO features that are missing in Blogspot blogs. Although Google has added some SEO features to blogger services those are not sufficient. There are various things that are important for blogging such as permalink editing, SEO settings, custom error page, and the use of plugins. When I came in touch with some professional bloggers, I switched to a self-hosted WordPress blog. And I am satisfied with WordPress. For this, you have to buy hosting (I recommend Bluehost) but you will surely start earning money to pay for hosting bills soon.

Here are some reasons why WordPress is best for blogging

1. Control over blog:

If you are using blogger as your blogging platform, then one thing you must know. According to Google’s Terms and Conditions, Google is the main owner of your blog and it can delete your Blogspot account without giving you any previous warning. It does not matter whether you are using the Blogspot domain or a custom domain. I have also faced the same problem with my blog and Google removed one of my blogs by mistake which took more than 2 weeks to restore. As the blog was not so popular, I didn’t face any loss. But think if it was an established blog, it could ruin my earnings.

If you use a self-hosting WordPress blog, then you are the true owner of your blog. The only thing you need to do is pay your hosting invoice in time. And your blog will remain yours for a lifetime. You also have full control over your blog. You can do whatever you want.

2. Themes and Plugins:

There is a wide range of Premium and free themes available that a blogger can use to make a good-looking SEO-friendly website. There are hundreds of theme marketplaces for WordPress, from which you can download any WordPress themes. With the use of premium and free plugins, bloggers can enhance the features of the blog. WordPress also has easy options to install themes and plugins. Users only need to browse, install and activate. You will be able to do most of the complex tasks with these plugins. So, you do not need to learn to code for most things.

There are several platforms where you can download premium themes and plugins to enhance the features of your blog. I personally use Codecanyon to download premium themes and plugins for WordPress.

3. Search Engine Friendly

WordPress is Search engine friendly by nature and you can improve its SEO by installing freely available plugins. If we compare it with Blogspot blogs or other blogging platforms, WordPress gives better SEO options. You can also enhance your WordPress blog SEO by using some popular WordPress SEO plugins. Comparing WordPress and a blogger’s BlogSpot blog, WordPress offers many options to optimize your blog for search engines. But in blogger, there are only a few options that are not going to help you. In WordPress, you also have full control over the code, so you can do whatever you want. You can optimize images, and content easily.

3. Customize the Way You Want

If you know PHP, HTML, and CSS, you can customize your WordPress-based website in any way you want. You can edit theme files or make a child theme to add your changes. I personally recommend people make a child theme for any custom changes they want in the theme. It lets you have all the future updates of the theme without losing your updates. On many websites, I purchased a premium theme just for features and customized the look as per my need.

4. Monetization:

Self-hosted blogs help bloggers to gain respect and trust. It shows that you are seriously into a business. There are many popular advertising agencies like BuySellads, that don’t approve Bloggers using BlogSpot or similar free blog services.

There are many advertising plugins available that allow users to easily inject ads inside the blogs at different positions. Many ad networks including Google Adsense now offer a dedicated plugin that makes it easy to put the code on the blog.  So you have full control over it. With full control, you can easily perform A/B testing to improve your earnings.

5. Reselling Your Blog:

If you are using the Blogspot blog, selling a blog is not easy. The same case is with the other free blog hosting platforms. But you can sell your self-hosting website built on WordPress. You have full control and ownership over your blog. A Free blog hosting platform may add restrictions at any time and even go down. While Blogger services will give you the option to move your blog, it is better to be on the safer side in advance. If you have a blog on WordPress, you can easily move database dump and images to a new host. In case you want to sell your blog, WordPress gives you full flexibility.

So, If you are a blogger using Blogspot service to host your blog, it’s time to change and switch to WordPress self-hosting.

6. Security

WordPress is maintained by Automattic and several open-source developers who take care of features and security. Now when hackers are active and try to hack into different websites, WordPress becomes their easy target. The primary reason is its popularity. Even if WordPress is free, it is a secure platform until you are not using an unsecured plugin that can compromise security. In most cases, WordPress blogs have been hacked by exploiting vulnerabilities in themes and plugins. So, you should always do proper research before installing a free theme or plugin on your WordPress blog.

Wrap up

I personally use WordPress and recommend everyone to start a blog on WordPress. You get full control of your blog and it is also really easy to manage. I have already explained all the reasons why WordPress is the best blogging platform. Not just for blogging, WordPress is also used to make business websites, eCommerce stores, real estate websites, job sites, and more. If you want to make a website and do not know how to code, you should use WordPress.
